Frugal Friday - Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush

I've been yapping on and on about the virtures of cream blush so while picking up a birthday card at Walgreen's I decided to try Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush to see if it could be a candidate for Frugal Friday. The blushes were BOGOH and I chose Rose Petal and Cloud Wine. The texture of this blush is very light and it looks air whipped in the pot like a real mousse would be. Upon application it dries to a bit of a powdery finish but not in a bad way. Since the texture is so light, it blends beautifully--just dip a finger in the pot and tap on apples of the cheeks then blend toward the hairline with your fingers or a sponge--I prefer the sponge to blur edges.

Cloud Wine is a plum rose shade perfect for fall;  it looks as if you just came in from raking the leaves on a crisp fall day. I wasn't as impressed with Rose Petal, I needed to keep layering to get the color to show up on my skin. Both shades have a bit of shimmer that imparts a healthy glow. My only complaint is that this blush is not long lasting, however it will provide a nice base for powder blushes.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush is available in six shades and retails for around $7.   Grade: C

Mascara Review - Maybelline Pulse Perfection

One thing I was blessed with is fairly long, dark curly lashes. Before you go getting all jealous on me, my sister got the thick hair and the boobs, okay ? I did not want to like this mascara,  I thought the vibrating thingy was a gimmick stolen from Lancome, which it is but...but...I really like this mascara!  It makes my lashes super long, as in almost touches my brow long!

I applied Lancome's Cils Booster XL first as always, then followed with Pulse Perfection. The brush is one of those rubber types which I think really helps to separate. It is a very wet formula, which is good and bad; good for application since it lessens clumps but when I sneezed I had huge dots under my eyes. Warning: do not apply when you have a cold--K? The vibration did take some getting used to; in a effort to try to get as close to the base of my lashes as possible, I kept sticking it my eye--yeah I know, duh! Don't worry, this was purely operator error on my part. The vibration works by pressing down on a button--I found it easy to use if you use your thumb to press the button. Maybelline could improve on this by changing it to an on-off switch, thereby eliminating the need to apply constant pressure on the button. I also found it a bit difficult to remove; I use my cleanser, Philosophy's Purity Made Simple to remove eye makeup and this takes two passes instead of the usual one.

If you want long dramatic lashes, then you should try Maybelline Pulse Perfection. It is a bit expensive for a drugstore mascara, $12-14, but I would almost compare it to Chanel Exceptionnel and then it's a bargain!  Download a $3 off coupon here

Packaging--4/5 --needs an off/on switch
Value--3/5, not that much more than some, much less than high end brands
Performance:-- 4/5--a little hard to remove
Will it make you Verklempt?--4/5
Overall Rating: 4/5

Frugal Friday

An Allure award winner for best drugstore concealer, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector, is a concealer and highlighter in one tube. On one end is a concealer with a doe foot applicator and on the other end is a highlighter with a brush tip. Genius! I love the consistency of this, the concealer is not too thick, not too runny, it's just riiight. Covers redness, blemishes, dark circles and a myriad of problems we mature women face. Perfect for the under eye area, it goes on smooth and will not settle into fine lines. One of the ingredients is glycerin to help hydrate, so it never looks thick or cakey. Apply the highlighter to the inner corner of the eye to brighten or highlight the cupid's bow of the lip, or brow bone. And at about $9, it’s a winner in my beauty book too!
